Voice calibration & AI tuning

What the calibration interview does, how to answer it, and how to retune over time.

Voice calibration is a short interview — between 3 and 12 questions — that captures your writing preferences. Answers are used as prompt context in WritersRoom and to generate your VitaeMe persona. This is inference and personalisation, not a statement that we train or fine-tune model weights on your answers.

Calibration is not a test with right or wrong answers. It is a structured conversation about instincts, preferences and writing habits. Outputs can still be inaccurate; review them yourself.

How to answer calibration questions well

1

Be specific, not aspirational

Answer how you actually write, not how you wish you wrote. If you tend to write dialogue-heavy scenes first and outline later, say that — even if you think you 'should' be an outliner. The AI is most useful when it works with your real process.

2

Use examples from your own work

When asked about influences or voice, name specific projects or moments from your own writing. 'My dialogue tends to overlap like Sorkin but my structure is closer to slow-burn European drama' is more useful to the AI than 'I write fast-paced character-driven drama.'

3

Answer at least 3 questions for AI analysis

The system requires a minimum of 3 answered calibration questions before you can generate a VitaeMe AI persona. Answering more — up to 12 — produces a richer, more accurate persona. Each additional answer adds nuance to the AI's understanding of your voice.

4

Return and add more over time

Calibration is not a one-time setup. As your voice evolves, return to the calibration section in VitaeMe and add or update your answers. Re-generate your persona after significant updates.

Where calibration lives in the product

Calibration questions are part of VitaeMe Step 5 (AI Persona). In WritersRoom, you can also access calibration context via the project's AI settings. Both feed the same underlying voice model.

Can I reset my calibration?

Yes. In VitaeMe, you can return to Step 5 and add, edit, or remove calibration answers at any time. Regenerating your persona after changes updates the context used in WritersRoom.

Does calibration affect all projects or just one?

Calibration is tied to your VitaeMe profile — it applies to all WritersRoom projects. Individual projects can have additional context through project memory and source files, but the underlying voice calibration is profile-wide.
